EU Directive on the safety of low voltage equipment 2014/35/EU
To ensure the proper level of quality and safety of electrical equipment on the market of the European Union, there are clear regulatory requirements. One of the main ones is Directive 2014/35/EU, which regulates the rules for low-voltage electrical equipment.
To sell such products on the EU market, the manufacturer or importer must undergo a conformity assessment procedure, which includes technical inspections and tests. After successfully passing this procedure, the product receives the CE marking, which confirms its compliance with European safety standards and allows it to be legally sold on the EU market. The Factum Conformity Assessment Center accompanies the process of assessing the conformity of products to the requirements of EU technical regulations and standards. We provide professional support at every stage, cooperating with authorized partners to ensure reliability and compliance with all necessary requirements.
About Directive 2014/35/EU
Directive 2014/35/EU was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU to replace the previous act 2006/95/EC. It applies to electrical equipment intended for use within the limits of 50 to 1000 V AC and 75 to 1500 V DC.
Directive 2014/35/EU covers all types of electrical equipment intended for use within low-voltage systems. This includes:

Household appliances and electrical tools;

Lighting devices and equipment for domestic and industrial purposes;

Power supply and distribution systems

Elements used in electrical installations, such as switches, sockets, cables and transformers

Requirements of Directive 2014/35/EU
-
Protection of life and health
Low-voltage equipment must be safe when used correctly, including protection against electric shock, overheating and short circuit.
-
Conformity assessment
The manufacturer carries out the conformity assessment independently or with the involvement of a third party, if necessary.
-
CE marking
All products must be marked with the CE mark as confirmation of compliance with European requirements.
-
Technical documentation
Must include drawings, description of materials, test results and risk analysis.
-
Compatibility with other systems
Equipment must be compatible with other electrical systems under standard conditions.
-
Clear instructions
The user must receive complete instructions for the safe installation, connection and operation of the equipment.
Requirements of Directive 2014/35/EU
- User safety:
– Equipment must be designed in such a way as not to create a threat to the health and safety of users during normal use.
– Important aspects are protection against electric shock, overheating, as well as protection against mechanical damage. - Conformity assessment procedures:
– Manufacturers or importers must undergo a conformity assessment procedure, which includes testing and verification of products for compliance with safety requirements.
– After successful assessment, the product receives the CE marking, which confirms its compliance with European safety standards. - Documentation and marking:
– All products must be accompanied by a technical file containing all the necessary documentation on manufacturing and safety checks.
– The presence of the CE marking is mandatory, which is a confirmation that the product meets the requirements of Directive 2014/35/EU and is safe for consumers.
Technical regulation of low-voltage equipment
In Ukraine, the requirements for the safety of electrical products are established by the technical regulation of low-voltage equipment. Its provisions are harmonized with the European Directive 2014/35/EU, which ensures the compliance of Ukrainian products with international standards. Compliance with the requirements of the regulation is mandatory for the legal sale and use of such products on the territory of Ukraine.
In order to officially sell low-voltage equipment on the Ukrainian market, it is necessary to obtain a certificate of conformity to the technical regulation of low-voltage equipment. This document confirms that the product is safe for the consumer and meets the established standards.
